Job Role: Marketing and Communications Director

The role

The National Institute of Teaching’s Marketing and Communications Director will lead the evolution of its new brand, raising awareness in the sector and launching its marketing campaigns for its first cohorts of participants.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Research and Best Practice and Programmes Teams, identifying compelling themes and content to build a communications strategy for our external audiences. Forging strong relationships will be key to this role. You will work closely with our central team and our Campus and Associate College network to ensure that we speak with one voice and that all our communications are clearly school-led.

This is a role with great variety. From launching and disseminating research reports to attracting people to the profession of teaching, there is much to stimulate a communications expert with a desire to make a difference.

Your main responsibilities

Brand

  • Setting the strategic direction for NIoT’s brand
  • Ensuring that our brand is always present in sector discussions, whether that’s at key events, through sector media or social media
  • Ensuring our digital platforms and channels are an accurate and compelling representation of our brand and what we provide
  • Provide tools and materials to enable the regional Campuses and Associate Colleges to function effectively
  • Protecting the NIoT brand from reputational risk by anticipating issues and providing support and communications expertise in the event of a crisis.

 

Marketing

  • Working closely with the Recruitment Director to devise and deliver an integrated marketing and communications strategy that helps us both recruit the next generation of teachers across the country and develop existing teachers and leaders
  • Thinking strategically about launching NIoT’s own research and disseminating it across the country, particularly in education cold spots
  • Developing our CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) and ensuring consistent use of it across the organisation as well as taking advantage of the benefits of marketing automation to create a smooth and attractive journey for our leads.

 

Communications

  • Working closely with our PR agency to ensure regular coverage in national, sector and regional media
  • Taking our website to the next stage of growth after we launch
  • Acting as a central point of communication for the Campus teams

 

Internal

  • Playing a role to advise and occasionally coordinate internal communications
  • Line managing the Communications Manager and supporting the Campus Recruitment Managers
  • Setting up strong monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure we analyse, refine and iterate our plans throughout the year.
  • Setting out objectives and managing the budget, reviewing and assessing spend
  • Writing and presenting trustee reports on the effectiveness of our marketing and communications

 

What we’re looking for

 

Essential

  • A commitment to the aims of the National Institute of Teaching
  • A proven track record of developing national communications and marketing campaigns and content strategies across a wide range of channels
  • Confidence and skill in using and analysing data to inform and shape our overall communications and marketing approach.
  • Strong oral and written presentational skills, and the ability to present complex information clearly and succinctly to a range of audiences.
  • Building collaborative and consultative relationships with a range of internal stakeholders, and working to align varied, often competing, interests.
  • Experience developing a CRM and
  • Line management experience
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

 

Desirable

  • Experience of leading a marketing and communications team
  • Knowledge of the education sector and awareness of national education stakeholder

 

Working at the National Institute of Teaching

Location: Flexible
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £60-65k depending on experience and location, plus benefits
